Transneft Druzhba has connected the revamped sections of the Kuybyshev – Unecha-2 oil trunk pipeline (OTP) on the territories of Samara and Tambov Regions.
Construction and installation works were launched in June as part of the technical upgrading, revamping and overhaul programme. The goal was to increase reliability and environmental safety of transportation via Transneft’s system of trunk pipelines.
In Syzran District of Samara Region, specialists connected the revamped underwater crossing of the OTP via the Balasheyka River. Its length with bank sections is 970 m. A 1100 m long pipeline section was also connected via the Bolshoy Lomovis River in Bondari District of Tambov Region, built to replace the existing one.
The need for revamping was caused by increased requirements for the reliability of pipes running in the riverbed of waterbodies. The sections were laid into a ready-made trench in parallel to the existing OTP. After that, the pipes which have reached the end of the standard service life will be dismantled.
Before the connection of the underwater crossings, hydraulic tests, in-line inspection and commissioning works were carried out.
The connection was carried out during the scheduled 72-hour shutdown of oil transportation via the Kuybyshev – Unecha-2 OTP. The works involved 63 people, 29 pieces of equipment were used.
Oil transportation via the Kuybyshev – Unecha-2 OTP has been resumed and is currently carried out in accordance with the standard protocol.
Commissioning of the connected sections is planned for December 2020.
