Transneft Druzhba examining pipeline sections with backing rings

Date of publication: 20 December 2017 Print

Bryansk Regional Pipeline Directorate of Transneft Druzhba is about to complete the in-line inspection of the sections in its petroleum products trunk pipelines (PPTP), built in the 1960s using the technology of backing rings. The works are carried out within the framework of the Company’s repair and operational needs (RON).

Compared to the sections where the technology of backing rings was not used, the gliding of PIGs is impeded along the given sections of the PPTP linear portion, on account of their structural specificity.

The inspection implies the use of pipeline inspection gadgets on the sections Stalnoy Kon – 1D and 1D – 8N of the trunk pipeline as well as on the section Stalnoy Kon – Bryansk of PPTP Kuibyshev – Bryansk and on the standby leg (run) of the underwater crossing over the river Desna.

In-line defectoscopes are indispensable tools ensuring the reliability of pipelines, their higher safety and longer service life. Till the end of 2017 about 380 km of PPTP built using backing rings will be inspected.
